Here’s the recipe, along with shopping suggestions, for the delicious jamocha smoothie I’ve been talking about in class. For those of you who are familiar with Arby’s jamocha shakes, here’s a different and more nutritious version. I’ve included a link to the Dr. Oz website for those of you who would like to see it there.
Super Energizer Smoothie
Ingredients –Makes one serving
1/2 cup cold water — this makes a very rich, thick smoothie, and I have begun adding a little more water to stretch it out a bit.
2 scoops of chocolate whey protein powder — Whole Foods 365 Brand chocolate whey powder works great. $10.99
1 tsp granulated coffee — I found granulated espresso at Whole Foods. $4.99 or so.
3-4 frozen strawberries — I didn’t have these at first so I substituted a couple of teaspoons of strawberry preserves.
5 ice cubes
500 mg glutamine — An amino acid. I bought the 500 mg capsules (same aisle as the whey protein powder at WF) and empty out the contents. $10.99 or so. Other than that, WF stocks jars of powder for around $30 that are 5 grams per scoop (that would be 5000 mg). I did some research and found out that 5 grams is a perfectly acceptable and average dosage, so next time I’ll purchase this.
Directions: Pour water into blender and begin mixing on lowest speed. Add 2 scoops of whey protein powder and blend for 10 seconds. Gradually add ice cubes, frozen fruit, coffee and glutamine and then blend on high speed for 1 minute, until ingredients are completely mixed. Serve cold!
